The prototype is in build.
It says something about me that at the end of the day when the team has gone home I always take a final look around. It’s my favourite part of the day. I just love passing an eye over all the beautiful things made.
Today was a special day because we started the actual build of our Day Boat. We will build the prototype out of marine ply sheathed in epoxy. We’ll make future boats in GRP. Why do we do it like this? Well it’s because I believe that it’s rare to get anything right first time. It’s always best to see and walk around a full size boat rather than a computer model. Also I want to be able to change my mind and change features. Basically to make this boat as fabulous as possible.
This Day Boat will be 19′ long and will be driven by a very special electric motor powered by efficient solar panels. Her lines are classical and have been designed by Naval Architect Andrew Wolstenholme. She’ll have an inboard motor that has been wired especially to rotate at slow speed with a large propeller. She is also a little wider in beam than you’d expect to make her both comfortable and stable.
In short she is the perfect modern boat for a day out on rivers, canals and lakes.
Stay tuned for further updates and of course if you are interested please get in touch.
