Sustainable Boating Award 2024

It's great to be recognised by the IWA and Towpath Talk

Drum roll. We’ve won a big award. Now you would expect me say that this wouldn’t be possible without the help of such a great team and I do this with bells on. We do have a brilliant team so thank you Glenn, Colin, Jay, Kerry, Iain, Keith, Sam, David, James, Martin and all of our suppliers and business partners. Ding Dong.

The Award was granted by The Inland Waterways Association and Towpath Talk and was for our contribution to Sustainable Boating 2024. Specifically, “The promotion of more efficient propulsion systems using high torque motors and larger propellers and for fitting large PV cell arrays. The Judges were also impressed by our use of recycled materials in our fit-outs”.

Upcycle a good phrase

We like recycling. In fact my Grandmother had a saying “Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves”. We’ve recycled it. “Look after the Watts and the Kilo Watts will look after themselves”.

We try to use as little power as possible so we don’t need to generate as much.

Solar stands the test of time

I write this sitting on board Shine, the narrowboat we took to the 2019 Crick Boat Show. We were moored next to Ampere the only other serial hybrid at the show. There was one other parallel hybrid. But we were the first to heap on the solar and make it look good. Incidentaly those panels are still performing well with no deterioration of performance and are still our main source of power.

We are pioneers! And there are 2 main reasons we do it. The first is that we believe that we are on this world to look after it not to exploit it. The second is that it’s brilliant fun to experiment with new ideas and annoy some old dinosaurs in the boating world.

To the IWA and Towpath Talk. Thank you for recognising our work.
