Introduction

This boat is for Caroline. The boat is called Tranquility and in many ways it is her oasis in a world full of noise. Caroline is not new to boats and has owned a 40’ narrowboat for the last 20 years called Dolphin.

Caroline is an astrologer. People use astrology for various purposes, such as gaining self-insight, understanding relationships, exploring potential life themes, or seeking guidance. The writer wonders how this can help with contacting the CRT and winter lock closures.

An important part of Mothership Marine’s boatbuilding philosophy is to make owners feel at home.  In many ways, life on the cut is a step back in time where we untangle ourselves from the rhythm of day to day life and get in touch with nature.

We try to build the interiors of our boats as uncluttered as possible so there is never a feeling of claustrophobia. Reclaimed timber lends time to the build so the boats feel more like a floating country cottage than a motel.

This is a great boat, but she gets better when you put Caroline onboard. It’s a case where one plus one does make three. In this way Tranquility lives up to her name

Layout Description

An important feature of Tranquility is her wonderfully sociable stern – great energy back here! This semi-cruiser layout comfortably seats four people together with ample space for each. The synthetic teak gives this area a very warm and comfortable feel, but it’s super easy to maintain.

Descend the steps of this reverse layout narrowboat, and you’ll have the electrical cupboard on your right (keeping the energy flowing!) and storage cupboard/cloakroom on your left. At the bottom, you’re into the kitchen where there is ample space to cook. Here at Mothership Marine, we believe living space is more important than just storage. To facilitate this, we trim the kitchen units with the same reclaimed timber used elsewhere in the boat. Extra storage under the floor makes an ideal space to store wine.

At the end of the kitchen is a comfortably sized breakfast bar.

In the saloon, you’ll find two custom-made ‘chaise longues’ These are multifunctional and transform from chaise longues in 2 single beds or even a dining room table for six.

On the forward bulkhead of the saloon is a Reflecs stove with back boiler to heat radiators on the port side. On the starboard side, there’s a bookshelf and a foldable writing desk.

In the bathroom, you’ll find a composting toilet ,wash basin and a 2’ by 3’ shower.

In the bedroom is Mothership Marine’s electrically operated ‘Drawbridge Bed’. When lowered the bed measures 5’ by 6’6”. It’s worth mentioning that being able to walk through the centre of your bed space to access the well deck is a wonderfully practical solution.

Houses have conservatories, narrowboats have cratches, they’re lovely places to hide away when there’s a little warmth from the sun and a chill in the air.  This particular scratch has mesh windows aswell which means in the summer the front doors can be left open and there is a nice free flow of air across the bedroom area.
